Consent can matter
Audio-recording and interception laws can impose consent requirements. Video rules may differ, especially in places where people reasonably expect privacy.
Location can matter
Private homes, workplaces, changing areas and other sensitive spaces can trigger different rules and expectations. Ownership of a device or property does not automatically make every recording lawful.
A responsible buyer’s checklist
- Define the legitimate purpose.
- Identify whether audio is recorded.
- Check local consent/privacy rules.
- Avoid sensitive/private spaces.
- Secure stored recordings.
- Delete footage when it is no longer needed.
